1. Why we need to train people?

Everything is about people and without the right people a business can’t grow and mature.

2. How do we retain employee?

Train people well enough so they can leave. Treat them well enough they don’t want to.

3. What need to be considered to build a team?

  • who help others despite struggling with their own difficulties
  • who try to see the positives in everyone they meet
  • who are the sunshine for others in negative situations
  • who treat everyone with respect, not just those they need to impress
  • who maintain integrity and honesty regardless of the pressure they are under
  • who stand up for people who can not stand up for themselves
  • who are big enough to admit their mistakes and strong enough to correct them
  • who take real risks to give someone a chance

4. What would be the job of the leader?

A job of a leader is to recognize the value of their people, and encourage them accordingly with PRIDE:

  • Promote — P
  • Reward — R
  • Involve — I
  • Defend — D
  • Empower — E

Agree ?

Sure signs that you work in a healthy environment free from toxic politics.

1) Leadership is open, fair, authentic, honest, friendly and supportive.

2) Failures and mistakes are treated as lessons. Finger-pointing is frowned upon.

3) Employees are trusted and empowered.

4) People are promoted and rewarded on the basis of their accomplishments, not political favors.

5) Leadership takes real risks for employees, stands up for them, gets them what they need, is there for them when they run into problems.

6) Best ideas win.

7) Employees come first.

8) Loyalty, talent and hard-work are appreciated and recognized.

Seek respect, not attention. It lasts a lot longer.

Seek loyalty, not obedience. It is worth a lot more.

5. Things we shouldn’t be doing, Office Politics

Office politics are defined by self-interests and agendas that run ahead of business goals. Management is ready sacrifice success in order to look good or to maintain control.

Sure signs of a highly political environment:

1. Blame-games, finger pointing.

2. Mind-games and manipulation.

3. Managers operate by pressure — not by inspiration nor by support

4. Setting up people to fail.

5. Honesty is considered to be a threat.

6. Not sharing relevant information in order to maintain control

7. Responsibility avoidance and dilution.

8. Not hiring nor promoting strong performers so as not endanger own position

9. Spreading rumors to damage someone’s reputation

10. Misrepresenting own accomplishment to make oneself look better at expense of others. Taking credit for other people’s successful work, and “crediting” them when their efforts fail

11. Favoritism and nepotism.

12. False promises to get someone to do something, e. g. to accept a job or a responsibility.
